What To Serve With Cajun Chicken
What kind of beer goes with a Cajun-styled dinner (Jamalaya rice served with Cajun Chicken).?
If you have specific beer brands, that would be appreciated!
I’d also like to know which styles are better suited for such a dinner as I am clueless at the moment (ale, lager, stout, etc.)
I agree with the pp on most points. Going with the Abita is a pretty safe bet and has some official-ness since it’s a LA beer. It’s pretty much the only palatable LA beer (see Dixie Beer), so that would be a fine choice, but is not always available.
Another option would be to go with a pilsner, though I would avoid Corona b/c it’s far too bland to add anything to the meal. Dos Equis is a decent beer, but it’s a Vienna-style lager and probably doesn’t fit the bill. I would go with a decent north German or Belgian pilsner such as Beck’s or Grolsh.
The final option is to get a bit wacky and go with a Belgian Lambic. These can be hard to find, but if you live in a major city you can find them. This beer is a bit sour, and won’t taste like any “beer” you are used to, but I’ve had it with hardy meals before and it has a way of clearing the palate after every bite, and the sense of sourness is reduced if the food is sturdy enough. This beer is a bit of a risk, though, and you may not like it, but it can do wonders for preserving the full flavor of your food through the last bite, and will introduce you to one of the oldest and oddest beer styles around.
