Can you help me with the cooking wines?
A recipe I have asks for Chinese cooking wine but I don’t have that. Is there any other type of cooking wine that is similar? It is for chicken. Please and thank you!
For Chinese food… use a sweet white or sherry for chicken.
PLEASE ignore the person who said “Use a cheap wine” !! I was always taught that IF you wouldn’t drink it from a glass, don’t use it cooking !!
ALSO, wine labeled as “cooking wine” typically includes extra salt and is the BOTTOM of the barrel !!
white vinegar vs white wine vinegar, and Sesame oil vs olive oil?
can you use white wine vinegar in place white vinegar? and Olive oil in place of sesame oil?
I have a Chinese recipe for Kung Pao Chicken, and don’t have those two ingredients it calls for. Would it taste a lot different if i used the other two instead?
Hello,
No way for the oils!! They both have a completly different flavor. You can buy a 4 oz bottle of Sesame oil in the supermarket.
You will use the oil in many other dishes.
