German Apple Cake Recipe
Anyone have this cake recipe?
My friends mother made this cake for her every year for her birthday. As teenagers we hated it, but now we are (much)older I want to make it! Her mom won’t give up the recipe. It was a yellow homemade cake with apple sauce filling (probably homemade) mandarin oranges and homemade whipped cream. Her mom is German and her dad was Italian so I don’t know which heritage it comes from. Help!

Looking for a glaze recipe to pour over a cake!?
I am making a german apple cake tonight and instead of powdered sugar over it I am thinking of making a glaze to pour over top. Does anyone have any great glaze recipe that would go great with this?
This sauce is from Paula Dean’s Fresh Apple Cake recipe.
It’s wonderful! You slowly pour it over your cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. Her recipe calls for the cake to be made in a bundt pan.
1/2 c butter
1 c sugar
1/2 c buttermilk
1/2 t baking soda
melt the butter in medium saucepan (don’t forget – when you mix the buttermilk and soda it will bubble up so don’t use a small pan)
stir in sugar, buttermilk and soda
bring to rolling boil stirring constantly
boil 1 minute
pour over hot cake in the pan as soon as it comes out of the oven
let it sit in the pan 1 hour
turn onto rack and cool completely
Enjoy!
