Chicken Egg Incubation Time
its day 20 of my chicken eggs incubation and no movement or chirping yet?
i no they hatch on day 21 but arnt u supposed to hear chirping and see movement on day 20. i will be soo upset if they dont hatch. i say this beacause its a homemade incubator and it might not have worked. ive kept the incubator in and around 99 or 100 degres. i turned them 3 times a day up to day 18. i kept the humidety at 60% and highered it to 70 on day 18. i candled them loads and i could see them move and all. what do u guys think. will they hatch?
I think that they WILL hatch! They often don’t peep until just before they break the shell with their eggtooth. Usually you’ll hear them the few hours before they hatch, and while hatching is in progress. However, it’s a quiet sound! You have to hold the egg to your ear (wide end), and you’ll be able to hear scratching and sometimes peeping. I don’t think this is terribly good for the chick though… best to let the eggs stay in the warm incubator so the chicks have all their strength.
If you do want to encourage them, though, talk to the eggs through the incubator! They can hear you, as can be confirmed by an excited cheeping and renewed digging effort if you happened to have the egg to your ear just then! So don’t hesitate to “cheer them on” from outside… They can hear you, even through the egg shell and the closed incubator!
All the conditions you described sound great, the temp, humidity, turning, etc. Nicely done!
