Vegetable food value question?
I need to know the food value of these nine plants. Not the nutrition facts or servings, but the amount of fruit or vegetable that they will produce over their lifespan. 10 points, sorry if you can’t find it in google or such.
Here are the plants:
Carrots
Potatoes
Peanuts
Cucumbers
Bell Pepper (green/red)
Tomato(any kind)
Watermelon
Pumpkin
It all varies on the conditions that the plant is exposed to. For example, a tomato plant grown in a raised bed may produce more than a tomato plant grown directly in tilled soil. Other factors to consider are fertilizer, rainfall, disease, mulching, ph balance, etc. So my neighbor and I will disagree on how much a tomato plant will typically produce.
For a tilled ground this is my opinion based on what I’ve been able to grow over the years – I have rocky soil:
Carrots – 1 per seed
Potatoes – N/A
Peanuts – N/A
Cucumbers – I didn’t have much success – less than five for me
Bell Peppers – (minus the dog eating them from the bush) 12-15 per plant
Tomato – 15-20 per plant
Watermelon – N/A (haven’t grown since I was a kid)
Pumpkin – (too many
) guess I had 10-15 pumpkins on one plant – maybe more – the plants had to be broken – they were strangling my tomato’s, so they didn’t get to have a full life, unfortunately.
